No Exit: Why You Must Remove Navigation Menus

On your main website, a navigation menu is essential. It helps people find your “About” page, your blog, and your services. But on a Landing Page, a navigation menu is a “Conversion Killer.”

A landing page has one job: to get the user to complete one specific action. Every link that leads away from that action is an exit door.

The Attention Ratio

Marketers use a concept called the Attention Ratio. This is the ratio of the number of things a user can do on a page versus the one thing they should do.

  • On a homepage, the ratio might be 40:1 (dozens of links).
  • On a high-converting landing page, the ratio must be 1:1.

Why We Remove Menus

  1. Reduced Choice Paralysis: When there is only one path forward, the brain doesn’t have to work as hard to make a decision.
  2. Increased Momentum: By removing “Home,” “About,” and “FAQ” links, you keep the user focused on the sales message as they scroll down the page.
  3. Higher “Stay” Time: Without links to click away, users are more likely to stay and read your testimonials and value proposition.

If your landing page is long, you can use “Anchor Links” that jump to a different section of the same page (like jumping to the pricing table or the form). This keeps the user within your “conversion funnel” while helping them navigate.

Conclusion

Your landing page is a focused conversation, not a library. Close the exit doors, and you’ll see the conversion doors open.
